    The Story Behind Kept

As is the case with many of life's endeavors, Kept was born out of a “perfect storm” of events. Ruth–a longtime business owner and entrepreneur–was looking for life's next adventure. Martha–a dedicated educator with 20+ years of experience–found the role to be increasingly demanding and finally made the difficult decision to leave the teaching profession. In a seemingly unrelated event, just then Martha needed a boiler and hot water heater replacement! Enter Brian, a local master plumber in high demand. Martha called and texted repeatedly until she was finally able to reach him and book him for the work. One day while on the job, Brian said, “If there's one thing I could change about my business, it would be how my calls are handled.” And Kept was born.

From the start Kept has set out to solve this simple, frustrating problem. Plumbers, techs, and small business owners feel tied to their phones 24/7 and are still losing jobs to competitors who answer first. Kept is a solution that does more than increase revenue–it gives them their life back. We help everyday, hard-working small business owners better serve their community–and still have the peace of mind and quality of life they deserve.

In our pilot with Gerken Plumbing, 29% of all calls came in after hours — and the after-hours lead rate was actually 11 percentage points higher than business hours, translating to nearly $40K in potential monthly revenue from after-hours leads alone. All of it handled by Kept. For any small business owner running for the phone evenings and weekends, these stats are life-changing. We're building Kept for the millions of owner-operated local service businesses across the country who've never had the time, budget, or bandwidth to solve “the one thing they want to change about their business” — starting with the community we know best, right here on Long Island.

    Co-founder

Martha has spent over 20 years as an educator in a variety of roles. She chose to homeschool her children, choosing her own path when the traditional one didn't fit. She built from scratch a four-tier enrichment program for children at a local community organization. And she taught second grade at a local elementary school (how many of y'all have ever said to your child's teacher, “God bless you! I could never do what you do!”). She's always been about using her skills to support and help the people she encounters in her everyday life.
